Revelation 12 tells us that there was a war in heaven. The dragon (satan) and his angels lost the war and their place in heaven. They were then hurled down to the earth. The dragon was enraged because he knew that his time was short, so he pursued the woman (Israel) who had given birth to the male child (Jesus). God protected the woman, so he went off to make war with her offspring--those who keep God's commands and hold fast their testimony of Jesus. However, Jesus tells us how we overcome the enraged dragon. Revelation 12:11 says, "They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. They did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death."
