In Acts 7, Stephen was stoned to death for being the Light in the darkness. On the same day that he was martyred, great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem. Everyone, except the apostles, were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. However, those who had been scattered preached the gospel wherever they went. Despite the great persecution, the church grew and thrived. The Light shines in the darkness and the darkness can never extinguish or overpower it. Jesus has called us to be the Light that shines in the darkness. Let us shine our Light of joy in the darkness of depression and sadness. Let us shine our Light of peace in the darkness of fear, anxiety and worry. Let us shine our Light of love in the darkness of hatred, conflict and division.
