Before Abraham's first wife died, he had two sons, Ishmael and Isaac. However, only one of his sons was the promised child whom God chose to make a covenant with. God blessed both of Abraham's sons. However, Isaac was the promised child whom God would use to bring forth the Messiah, Jesus Christ-the Anointed so that all the world could be blessed. "But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, who Sarah will bear to you by this time next year," Genesis 17:21.
