Habakkuk was a pre-exilic prophet to the southern kingdom of Judah. He was greatly distressed and discouraged by the apostasy of his people. The people had abandoned God's laws and had left the ancient paths. So, Habakkuk complained to God. He asked Him why He was allowing all the violence, strife, conflict and all the injustices to continue. God told him that He had a plan in place to punish the nation and to bring justice. God encouraged Habakkuk to continue to live by faith in Him. He was in control. God says the same to us in Habakkuk 2:4b, "...but the just shall live by his faith," (KJV).
