Iin John 8, Jesus told the Jewish religious leaders that He came to set them free. However, they boasted that they had never been slaves to anyone so they didn't need to be set free. Jesus was trying to teach them that they were sinners, however, similarly today many people fail to admit that they are sinners in need of a Savior. There is a penalty to pay for sin. Romans 3:23 says the wages of sin is death. However, God the Father sent Jesus to pay the penalty for our sin and redeem us.
"And you will know the truth [regarding salvation], and the truth will set you free [from the penalty of sin]."" John 8:32 AMP
