Ecclesiastes 12:13 says, "Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind." God requires us to be obedient to His commands. Obedience brings the blessings.
God gives us free will, however there are consequences to our choice. If we choose to humble ourselves and obey God, God promises to bless us and give us eternal life. If we choose to disobey God, then we set ourselves as enemies of God and will reap what we have sown. "If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land; but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken." Isaiah 1:19-20 NIV
