In Matthew 19, a rich young ruler asked Jesus, what good thing should he do to get eternal life. Jesus told him that in addition to fulfilling God’s commandments, he should sell his possessions and give the money to the poor so that he can have treasure in heaven. Then he should follow Him. When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he could not bear to forsake his great wealth and status and follow Jesus. In Matthew 7:13-14, Jesus tells us to enter eternal life through the narrow door. The gate to eternal life is narrow because we have to submit to God’s authority and His will for our lives.
